Rourkela: A man has been arrested by Rourkela Police for allegedly attempting to extort money by posing as a senior officer of Odisha Chief Minister’s Office (CMO).
The accused, identified as Aman Pradhan (24) of Kalahandi, had been staying in Sankalp Vihar locality of Bhubaneswar.
As per information, Aman made a phone call to Bimbadhara Sethi, Deputy Director of Mines in Rourkela, on April 22 and demanded money after identifying himself as senior IAS officer Manoj Kumar Sahoo, who is the Private Secretary to Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi.
Suspecting the call to be fake, Sethi disconnected it. However, Aman again contacted him the next day from the same number introducing himself as the CM’s Private Secretary and asked for money.
Sethi grew suspicious of the repeated calls and lodged a complaint at the Udit Nagar Police Station.
Police with help of Rourkela cyber police station tracked the location of the accused and nabbed him from Bhubaneswar.
A case has been registered against him under sections 351(4)/308(2)/242 of BNS and 66(D) of IT Act.
Following his arrest, he was presented before a local court in Rourkela for further legal proceedings.
