Bhubaneswar: In a disturbing incident in Bhubaneswar’s Mancheswar area, a man allegedly strangled his wife to death after a heated exchange last night.
The deceased has been identified as Nandita Behera.
Nandita had married Gupteswar of Niali in 2018. He ran a mobile shop at Chakeisiani.
According to sources, she had a quarrel with her husband, Gupteswar Behera, over his alleged extramarital affair. After allegedly killing her, he abandoned the body at Capital Hospital and fled. The matter came to light after the hospital authorities informed police.
Nandita’s brother told the media that initially they got a call from Gupteswar’s father informing them about her death without specifying any reason. He then called his brother-in-law, who asked him to come to Capital Hospital. “He claimed he was at the police station when I called him on reaching the hospital. When I asked him about the bed and ward numbers, he told me that her body was in the mortuary. I have been waiting for him here since the last one and a half hours,” the grieving brother said, alleging that his sister was murdered.
Her family further alleged that Gupteswar had physically assaulted Nandita on several occasions in the past.
Meanwhile, police have detained the husband for questioning. Further investigation is underway to ascertain the motive behind the alleged murder.
