Man Jumps Off Moving Car To Escape ‘Kidnapping Bid’ In Bhubaneswar, Dies

Bhubaneswar:  A man jumped off a moving vehicle and died while allegedly attempting to escape from the clutches of his kidnappers in Odisha capital on Thursday night.

The deceased has been identified as Bichitra Palei (42),  a resident of Gadakana on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar.

Police have detained two persons, including a woman, in this connection for questioning.

According to sources, Bichitra jumped out of a moving car at Vani Vihar Square around 9.25 pm and was spotted by locals while being chased by a youth and a woman as he ran towards Utkal University. The passersby came to his rescue and they also overpowered the chasers, who are residents of Shantipalli slum in the city.

They were later taken to the nearby Saheed Nagar police station, where Bichitra fell unconscious and was rushed to the Capital Hospital. Doctors at the government healthcare facility, however, declared him dead.

A preliminary probe revealed that Bichitra had borrowed Rs 3 lakh from one of the accused and was not repaying the amount. The alleged kidnappers claimed that he jumped out of the vehicle while they were taking him to the police station from Patia.
