New Delhi: A 54-year-old Manipuri musician died after a group of delivery workers and dhaba staff allegedly attacked him when he asked them to stop shouting and drinking outside his apartment in Kilokari village in southeast Delhi in the early hours of Monday, police said, PTI reported.

Police arrested seven men and taken one juvenile into custody in connection with the case.

The Sunlight Colony police station registered the case after receiving a PCR call reporting the assault on C Vikram Singh, a Manipur native who had been living in Kilokari for several years, police said. A preliminary probe indicated that Singh, who belonged to the Meitei community, confronted a group of men creating a disturbance outside his home and was beaten when he asked them to keep the noise down, police said.

Community Condemns ‘Senseless’ Violence

Singh’s son, Yaiphaba, rushed him to Holy Family Hospital, where he later died from his injuries, police said. Hospital authorities told reporters his death was due to haemorrhagic shock and trauma, according to media reports.

The North East Students Society, Delhi University (NESSDU) mourned Singh’s death, calling him a “respected Manipuri musician”.

“According to reports, Singh went downstairs from his residence in Kilokri, New Delhi, after a group of six men were allegedly drinking and creating a disturbance outside his apartment. When he requested them to lower the noise, he was reportedly attacked by the group and sustained severe injuries, to which he later succumbed,” the students’ body said.

Describing the incident as a “senseless act of violence”, NESSDU pressed for a “swift, fair, and thorough investigation” and demanded that all those responsible be held accountable.

Eight Accused, Probe Underway

Police identified the arrested men as Bharat Kumar (19), Pramod (26), Ramzan Khan (22), Deepanshu (21), Mohan Vishwakarma (32), Vijay (36) and Mannu (26), along with one juvenile. All of them work at different dhabas and food stalls in the area, officers said.

Police confirmed that an investigation into the circumstances leading to the assault and Singh’s death is ongoing.
