Balangir: In a major success against left wing extremists (LWEs), security forces busted a Maoist camp in Khaprakhol and Tureikela areas of Odisha’s Balangir district.
Sources said the Maoist camp was destroyed during a joint operation conducted by a special team comprising personnel of the police, District Voluntary Force (DVF), and Special Operations Group (SOG).
Acting on specific information about the presence red rebels in the Gandhamardan Hills under Khaprakhol police station and the Chhatradandi forest under Tureikela police station, security forces launched the joint operation.
According to Northern Range IG Himanshu Lal and Balangir SP Avilash G, several Maoists had sneaked into Odisha for safety following recent strikes on their camps in Chhattisgarh under ‘Operation Black Forest.’ The Balangir-Bargarh-Mahasamund (BBM) division forms part of the corridor used by Maoists to move along the jungle terrain of Chhattisgarh.
Following the movement of Maoists into the area, a special unit of Balangir police, together with DVF and SOG, conducted a joint raid to apprehend the ultras. Though the Maoists had fled the scene before the raid, the security forces destroyed their camp and seized a huge quantity of explosives in the Chhatradandi forest under Tureikela.
