Maoists Observe PLGA Week, Police On High Alert


Bhubaneswar: Security has beefed up by police in the Maoist-hit areas
of Kandhamal and Malkangiri districts as the Naxals are observing
People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA) week (December 2 to 8) from

Bus services have been suspended on eight routes in Rayagada,
Kandhamal and some places in Malkangiri district due to fear of Maoist

“No violence has been reported from anywhere so far, but Naxal
pamphlets and posters were seen at various places including Mahupadar
and Kalimela areas in Malkangiri district. Combing operations have
been intensified and the border areas sealed”, a senior police officer

The outlawed CPI (Maoists) has been observing the PLGA week since 2000
in the memory of slain cadres Nalla Adi Reddy alias Syam, Murali and
Naresh, who were killed in an encounter at Koyyuru in Karimnagar of
Andhra Pradesh on december 2, 1999.
