New Delhi: Amroha police in Uttar Pradesh is investigating a death threat sent to Team India pacer Mohammed Shami.
Shami, who is currently playing in the IPL for Sunrisers Hyderabad, received the threat via email on the afternoon of May 4.
The police was immediately informed about the threat following which an FIR was filed at Amroha district’s Cyber Crime Police Station.
Shami’s brother Haseeb submitted the complaint, naming Rajput Sindar as the sender who sought a ransom of Rs 1 crore from the senior cricketer.
As directed by the Superintendent of Police, the FIR was lodged on Monday under sections 66d and 66e of Information Technology (Amendment) Act, 2008, and section 308(4) of BNS 2023.
After a prolonged absence due to surgery following the 2023 World Cup campaign, Shami returned to the Indian squad for the white-ball series against England and the Champions Trophy earlier this year.
Acquired by Sunrisers Hyderabad in the mega auction ahead of IPL 2025, Shami has not been in great form in the T20 league. Having bagged just 6 wickets in 9 games, Shami was dropped for Monday’s match against Delhi Capitals.
