Bhubaneswar: The Congress party has appointed senior leader Meenakshi Bahinipati as president of Odisha Pradesh Mahila Congress.
The All India Congress Committee (AICC), in a press release issued on Sunday, stated that party president Mallikarjun Kharge has approved the proposal for the appointment of Meenakhi as president of Odisha Pradesh Mahila Congress.
Notably, Meenakshi had earlier been appointed as the women wing president of Congress in the state in January 2024. However, the PCC and its different frontal organisations including Mahila Congress, were dissolved after the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in the state last year.
Meenakshi, who earlier served as general secretary of Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee, is the wife of the party’s Jeypur MLA Tara Prasad Bahinipati.
She was elected as chairperson of Koraput Municipality twice earlier. She also held the president post of Koraput district Congress for 13 years from 2011 to 2023.
