Indore: The two elder brothers of Raja Raghuvanshi, who was allegedly murdered by his wife and others during their honeymoon in Meghalaya in 2025, have been taken into custody by the police on charges of illegally serving liquor at their eatery.
Apart from Sachin and Vipin Raghuvanshi, three employees of the restaurant have also been placed under preventive arrest, a police official said, as reported by News18.
The action was taken after the police found that liquor was allegedly being served to customers at the establishment without the required licence.
Nidhi Saxena, assistant commissioner of police (ACP), said the eatery operators had not obtained a licence to serve alcohol from the excise department. The food establishment falls under the jurisdiction of Rau police station.
The five have been arrested as a precautionary measure under Section 170 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). This provision allows a police officer to arrest a person without a warrant or an order from a magistrate if the officer has information that the person is planning to commit a cognisable offence.
The police have registered a case under the Excise Act over the alleged illegal serving of liquor at the eatery, the ACP said. A separate case has also been registered under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deals with disobedience of an order issued by a public servant.
The case was registered after the establishment allegedly failed to provide information to police.
Some have, however, claimed a larger conspiracy to put the Raghuvanshi family under pressure to try and weaken the case against Sonam and others.
