MG Motor India on Thursday unveiled its first electric vehicle for India – the ZS EV. The SUV will be assembled at MG’s Halol plant in Gujarat and has the same specs as the one sold in UK.
The ZS EV’s length is between Hyundai Creta and MG Hector. It measures 4314 mm long, 1809 mm wide and stands 1620 mm tall while the wheelbase is 2579 mm. It will compete head to head with the Hyundai Kona electric.
The ZS EV is loaded with features such as a panoramic sunroof that comes as standard. Like the Hector, there is a big 8-inch touchscreen with connected car tech and Apple Carplay/Android Auto. It also has a PM 2.5 air filter which can bring down air from 300 AQI to safe levels in just 35 minutes.
It has a 44.5 kWh battery pack that promises a range of 340 km on a single charge. It takes 40 minutes to charge using a 50 kW DC charger. The motor develops 141 bhp and 353 Nm of peak torque and does 0-100 kmph in just 8 seconds. The battery is IP67 certified.
MG Motor has partnered with Fortum India to install 50 kW DC fast charging centers across MG showrooms. The ZS EV will initially be available in five cities – Delhi NCR, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Ahmedabad. There will be a charging station every 5 km in major cities and every 25 km on major highways.
The prices will be revealed in 2020 and it is expected to be priced around Rs 25 lakh like the Hyundai Kona.
