Angul: A minor girl, who had been missing for the last two days, was found dead under a bush in Odisha’s Angul district on Friday amid allegation of rape and murder.
As per sources, the incident took place at a place under the jurisdiction of NTPC (National Thermal Power Corporation) police station. The deceased was a student of class 8 in a local school, a senior police officer said.
Based on a complaint lodged by the father of the girl, a case was registered and search operation launched by the police to trace her. A team recovered the body of the girl in the morning, according to Angul Superintendent of Police Rahul Jain.
A special team of the Angul police arrested accused Ashish Nayak of Bijigol village while he was planning to leave Odisha in an attempt to evade the law.
As per police sources, Nayak had alleged sexually assaulted the girl, who was also from the same village, while she was collecting spinach from a farmland on Thursday. The accused later killed the victim by strangulating her using a towel and fled the village.
According to him, a Deputy Superintend of Police (DSP)-rank officer has been asked to investigate the case and prepare the chargesheet, sources added.
