Bhubaneswar: The southwest monsoon has further withdrawn from parts of Odisha, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Thursday.
The monsoon also withdrew from remaining areas of Maharashtra and some parts of Goa, Karnataka and Telangana. It has also withdrawn from some more parts of Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh.
In Odisha, the withdrawal has advanced through some areas, with the latest withdrawal (on October 8) line passing through Sundaragada and Baragada.
The line of withdrawal of the southwest monsoon now passes through Supaul, Ranchi, Sundaragada, Baragada, Bijapur, Hyderabad, Belagavi and Panjim.
The actual withdrawal has progressed across parts of central and eastern India since late September.
Notably, the monsoon began withdrawing from northwest India around September 17, while the normal withdrawal from the southern peninsula is around October 15.
Weather conditions are becoming favourable for the further withdrawal of the monsoon from more parts of Odisha and other areas of eastern India. The monsoon is expected to retreat from additional regions of eastern India over the next three to four days.
The southwest monsoon had arrived in Odisha on June 12 this year, marking the beginning of the rainy season in the state.
