Monsoon Set To Further Advance Into Odisha, Heavy Rain Alert Amid Heatwave & Thunderstorm Activity
Bhubaneswar: Odisha is likely to get some reprieve from the heatwave and hot and humid weather as conditions have become favourable for further advance of the southwest monsoon into some more parts of the state.
According to the India Meteorological Department, conditions are favourable for further advance of southwest monsoon into some more parts of Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, coastal Andhra Pradesh and northwest Bay of Bengal during next 3-4 days.
Monsoon had set over Odisha on June 8, four days ahead of its schedule, and covered parts of Malkangiri district. Its progress, however, has been slow thereafter.
While heatwave may prevail for 2 days under the influence of dry north-westerly winds blowing towards the state, hot and humid conditions with thunderstorm activity will continue till the end of this week. The weather agency has also forecast heavy rainfall in some districts of the state on June 13 (Koraput, Malkangiri ,Nabarangpur), June 14 (Koraput, Gajapati, Rayagada, and Nabarangpur) and June 17 (Ganjam, Gajapati, and Nayagarh).
On June 13-14, heatwave may prevail at one or two places in Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Sundargarh, Boudh, Sonepur and Bargarh. Hot & humid weather condition is likely one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati till June 17.
On June 13, thunderstorm with lightning accompanied by gusty surface windspeed reaching 30-40 kmph may occur at one or two places in Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Angul, Cuttack, Sundargarh, Jagatsinghpur, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Kendrapara, Sonepur, Balangir, Boudh, Nuapada, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati. Similar weather condition is likely in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati,Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, and Malkangiri during the subsequent 24 hours.
Thunderstorm with lightning accompanied by gusty surface windspeed reaching 30-40 kmph may occur at one or two places in Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Angul, and Dhenkanal on June 15, and in Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nuapada, Balangir, Boudh, and Sonepur on June 16.
On June 17, Thunderstorm with lightning accompanied by gusty surface windspeed reaching 30-40 kmph is likely in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, and Mayurbhanj .
Light to moderate rain may continue at several places in the state in the subsequent 2 days.
There will be no large change in the day temperature during the next 3-4 days, it added.
