Alaska: A mountaineer from Kerala and a Government Secretariat employee, Shaikh Hasan Khan, is reportedly trapped at Mount Denali in Alaska due to a severe snowstorm. He was on a mission to hoist the Indian flag in honour of the Army’s Operation Sindoor at North America’s highest peak.
According to reports, he has been unable to descend due to extreme weather conditions. The climber has sent distress messages requesting urgent rescue from the peak. The last communication from Khan was made on June 10. He informed his family of a shortage of food and water.

He has not made any contact since then. He posted an Instagram video on June 10 in which he spoke about his last stop on the way to Mount Denali. In Talkateena, Alaska, he showed around a cemetery next to a Climber’s Memorial with plaque cards to remember all the mountaineers who lost their lives at the summit.
Earlier, Khan had scaled Mount Everest successfully. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging immediate intervention.
“I request the Hon’ble Prime Minister to kindly intervene in the matter immediately and give necessary directions to the Indian Embassy in United States of America to take up the matter with the authorities concerned, so that the person/s are rescued at the earliest,” he wrote.
