Bhubaneswar: A major traffic disruption occurred near Pal Heights intersection at Jaydev Vihar in Bhubaneswar on Friday after a moving car suddenly went up in flames in the middle of the road.
According to eyewitness, the occupants of the vehicle managed to escape safely as soon as they noticed the smoke at round 10.30 am, averting a major tragedy. It is being suspected that a short circuit in the car’s air conditioning compressor might have triggered the blaze.
On being informed, fire personnel from Chandrasekharpur and Chandaka fire stations rushed to the spot. They used foam compounds to bring the flames under control.
The incident, which took place during busy hours, led to a severe traffic gridlock stretching from Jaydev Vihar toward the Xavier Crossing. Commuters were left stranded as police and traffic officials worked to divert vehicles and clear the road.
A senior fire official at the scene confirmed that the driver and two occupants escaped completely unhurt. Investigation is underway to ascertain the exact cause of the fire.
