Bhubaneswar: There is a shortage of quarters for newly-elected MLAs here and to deal with this, the government has decided to construct a multi-storey building at MLA Colony in Unit-4.
Assembly Speaker Surjya Narayan Patro said that it has been planned to demolish a portion of the MLA Colony and construct new multi-storey quarters for 140 members. “The multi-storey building will come up at an expense of Rs 400 crore,” said Patro.
The new building will have facilities such as a conference hall, kalyan mandap, gym and a jogging track.
The Odisha Legislative Assembly is also due for a makeover, starting with its lobby.
Patro notified that the hall where members discuss important issues will be renovated. A tender has been invited for this. “The makeover will turn it into the country’s most modern Assembly,” he added.
