Cuttack: A prisoner, serving life sentence for murder, was found hanging from a tree inside Choudwar circle Jail in Odisha’s Cuttack last evening.
He has been identified as Bishnu Prasad Swain, a resident of Samantarapur village under Tangi tehsil.
According to sources, Swain was out on parole for 10 days to attend his mother’s last rites rituals and had returned to the jail on May 11. He was found hanging from a mango tree inside the jail premises at around 4 pm on Saturday, following which he was rushed to SCB Medical College & Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Swain was serving the sentence for murdering a relative on June 29, 2021, and was reportedly struggling with mental health issues.
The jail authorities are yet to issue any statement on the incident.
