Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Vigilance sleuths on Friday apprehended Executive Officer of Khandapada NAC in Nayagarh district, Niranjan Dhal, while allegedly accepting Rs 20,000 bribe.
He had demanded illegal gratification from a contractor to clear bills for works taken up by him. He was caught taking the bribe at his government quarters. The entire bribe money was recovered from him and seized, a Vigilance release said.
Simultaneous searches are currently on at 5 locations linked to Dhal to ascertain whether he has accumulated assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
A case has been registered against him under Section 7 of PC (Amendment)Act,2018 and further investigation is underway, it added.
