National Herald Case: Cong Creating ‘Drama’ Over ED Summons To Sonia & Rahul, Says BJP Leader Sambit Patra In Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday hit out at top leaders of the Congress for “making a drama’ over summons by Enforcement Directorate to appear before it in connection with the National Herald case.

Speaking at a press meet in Bhubaneswar, BJP’s national spokesperson Sambit Patra said the country is aware of how the Congress was involved in corruption. The Congress was involved in foul play in the case, he added.

Lashing out at Gandhi family, Patra said Congress vice-president and MP Rahul Gandhi must confess to the ED that he had embezzled Rs 500 crores. “Both Congress president Sonia Gandhi and vice-president Rahul Gandhi are on bail. Rahul is supposed to appear before the ED tomorrow. But Congress is making a huge drama out of it,” he said.

Speaking on the Congress party’s proposed press conferences across the country on Sunday to address the issue, the BJP spokesman said, “Why this drama of press conferences? Present yourself in front of ED and accept the wrongdoing.”

On the Satyagrah to be launched by the Congress against the Centre for targeting the Ganhi family, Patra said, “Gandhiji would be shamed to see this fake Satyagrah of fake Gandhis. Rahulji, don’t try to escape the rule. This is a legal issue and not a political issue.”

Speaking on the details of the case, the BJP leader further said former prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru had established Associate Journal Ltd (AJL) with funds from freedom fighters. After the loan of the commercial company went up to Rs 90 crore, it was closed down in 2008.

Later, when Motilal Vohra was the chairman of AJL, the company had taken Rs 90 crore on loan from the Congress. Since Bohra was Congress treasurer at the time, practically he gave the loan to himself, Patra said alleging that the party was knowingly conducting fraud in the case.
