Bhubaneswar: While the transformation work of various heritage places, temples and birth places of prominent people is going on in the state, now a memorial is being built at the birth place of Manoj Das. Such a move is certainly welcome. However, birthplace of celebrated astronomer and scholar Pathani Samanta, who made Odisha proud in the, has remained neglected,” said noted author Dash Benhur.
As Nayagarh Bikasha Mancha celebrated Nayagarh Dibasa, the birth anniversary of the district, Benhur demanded for development of Pathani Samanta’s birthplace at Khandapada, where his residence lies in a dilapidated condition, almost 120 years after his death.
Benhur suggested that the Mancha should make a strong demand for the construction of a grand monument there.
Prof Premanand Mahapatra highlighted the history and heritage of the four erstwhile feudatory states of Nayagarh district while columnist Janakish Badapanda proposed the construction of a community building for the people of Nayagarh in Bhubaneswar.
Social worker Nibedita Lenka called Nayagarh people to join hands for the common cause for the social and cultural development of the region.
Over 50 Nayagarh residents living in Bhubaneswar participated in the event, which also decided to celebrate the second Chhenapoda Dibasa in Bhubaneswar on April 11.
