New Delhi: The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has brought out a special module to teach schoolchildren on Operation Sindoor.

The module, meant for students from classes III to XII, is about India’s response to the deadly Pahalgam terror attack and the operations that followed. It explains the country’s defence preparedness, use of new technology and rising global role.

The module first mentions several attempts by Pakistan to disrupt peace in India, touching briefly on terror attacks like Uri attack in 2016 and 2019 Pulwama attack.

The module describes Operation Sindoor as India’s “strong and clear response to the cowardly attack” on tourists in Pahalgam on April 22. The attack, which claimed 26 lives, was “the terrorists’ goal was to create fear and religious tension,” the module mentions.

“On 7 May 2025 at 0105 hrs, India launches a strategic military mission ‘Operation Sindoor’… it was a precision strike. The Indian Armed forces targeted terror hideouts and training centres in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir. Thie was a planned, strategic move demonstrating India’s sovereignty and resolve,” the module says.

Making special note of local people’s role in the aftermath of the terror attack, the module says, “The local population stood up and spoke against the terrorists. Their response breaks stereotypes and shows the real voice of peace-loving people.”

It goes on to detail India’s planning and coordination between April 22 and May 7, and the flawless coordination between the Chief of Defence Staff and the Chiefs of the Army, Navy and Air Force in successfully planning and executing strikes against terror infrastructures.

“The Indian Army and Air Force worked together. Seven camps were destroyed by the Army, and two — Muridke and Bahawalpur — were hit by the Air Force,” the module states.

The module then describes how Pakistan escalated the conflict on May 8 by attacking “India’s air bases, logistic nodes, forwards posts all along the Line of Control and Army formation headquarters- some using Unmanned Aerial Systems, or UAS.”

India successfully thwarted Pakistan’s attack. “Our integrated air defence grid and counter-UAS grid were already in place. These systems- like the S-400, MRSAM, AKASH, and traditional air defence guns- proved highly effective,” the module says, going on to detail India’s calibrated response.

“Operation Sindoor was designed to be a precise and responsible answer to Pakistan-sponsored terrorism. The goal wasn’t just retaliation – it was strategic deterrence,” the teaching module mentions.
