Nearly 50K Overnight Cases Take India’s COVID-19 Tally Closer To 13 Lakh Mark

New Delhi: An addition of 49,311 positive cases in the last 24 hours took India’s COVID-19 tally past the 12 lakh mark to 12,87,945 on Friday.

This is the highest single-day spike of COVID-19 cases recorded in India so far.

A total of 740 people succumbed to the virus in the last 24 hours that took the country’s death toll to 30,601, the Union Health Ministry informed.

On a positive note, the number of recovered cases (8,17,208) have surpassed active cases by 3,77,073.

The country’s recovery rate has improved to 63.45 per cent. Meanwhile, the fatality rate of cases has fallen to 2.38 per cent.

Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Telangana, Bihar, Assam, Delhi, Odisha, Kerala and Gujarat contribute to around 75 per cent of the record single-day spike.

The number of sample testing labs have increased to 1290. According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 1,54,28,170 COVID-19 samples have been tested so far, including 3,52,801 on Thursday.
