Bhubaneswar: Two officials from the Embassy of Nepal in New Delhi arrived in the Odisha capital on Saturday to coordinate the safe repatriation of two 17-year-old Nepalese girls who were rescued from an alleged cross-border human trafficking network.
According to sources, the embassy officials are expected to meet the Khurda Collector and the District Child Protection Officer. Discussions will focus on the girls’ welfare, completion of formalities, and their safe return to Nepal via Delhi. Authorities are also examining whether the case points to a broader trafficking racket that uses fake job offers to exploit vulnerable women and girls across borders.
The minors were allegedly lured from Nepal to Kolkata in March with false promises of employment, only to be forced into prostitution. An Odia youth named Rakesh from Nayagarh district rescued them from traffickers in Kolkata and brought them to Bhubaneswar, where they sought assistance from the Nepal Embassy. Acting on the embassy’s information, Chandrasekharpur police rescued them from a hotel at Patia. They were subsequently placed in a short-stay home for care and rehabilitation.
Meanwhile, police informed the Nepal Embassy in New Delhi to facilitate their repatriation.
