Bhubaneswar The National Medical Commission (NMC) has approved an increase of 50 seats for the MBBS course in the Institute of Medical Sciences and SUM Hospital-2 at Phulnakhara, on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar, from the current academic session.
The IMS and SUM Hospital -2, which was inaugurated in January 2023, had 150 seats to start with. With the NMC nod, the intake capacity of the Phulnakhara campus will increase from 150 to 200 seats from the 2025-26 academic session, benefiting the second batch of students.
The campus admitted its first batch of 150 MBBS students in the 2024-25 session.
Notably, the NMC has also given its approval for 200 seats in two newly-established medical colleges, Government Medical College, Phulbani, and Pavitra Mohan Pradhan Government Medical College, Talcher, in the state from the current academic year. Each medical college will have an intake capacity of 100 students for MBBS courses.
