No Bouncer To Be Employed In Bars Of Odisha’s Twin Cities For Next Two Months
Bhubaneswar: Taking strong exception to the alleged involvement of bouncers in criminal activities, the Commissionerate Police have barred bars under its jurisdiction from hiring them.
“Various criminal cases have been lodged against many bouncers in the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack in the recent past. Such people pose a threat to the lives of customers visiting the bars and can hamper peace in society,” the Information and Public Relation (I&PR) Department said in a release.
The bar owners have also been asked to mandatorily verify the background of their security guards from their respective local DCPs.
“Bar owners can hire security guards from registered private agencies and share their personal details with the local police. They can also do the same by dialling 112,” the release said.
This order came into effect on March 11 and will remain in force for 60 days, till May 9 unless withdrawn earlier.
In November last year, Commissioner of Police Saumendra Priyadarshi had directed the bar owners to recruit professional private security personnel only from authorised agencies, registered under the Private Security Agencies (Regulation) Act (PSARA). Police verification was mandatory before employing them.
Notably, over a dozen bouncers have been arrested for allegedly assaulting customers in the past.
