New Delhi: In a relief for Sonia Gandhi, a Delhi court has dismissed a petition seeking an FIR against the veteran Congress leader, alleging that her name had been entered in the electoral rolls before she became an Indian citizen.
Vikas Tripathi, the petitioner, claimed that even though Sonia acquired Indian citizenship in 1983, her name was added to the New Delhi constituency voter list in January 1980.
Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACMM) Vaibhav Chaurasiya passed the order, rejecting the criminal complaint, reported Bar and Bench.
“We have dismissed it,” the court said on Thursday.
Senior advocate Pavan Narang, who appeared for Tripathi, had argued that citizenship was a prerequisite for being a voter, and alleged that Sonia’s premature inclusion amounted to forgery and cheating of public authorities.
The court found no merit in Tripathi’s contention, and declined to order registration of an FIR against Sonia.
