Bhubaneswar: Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) have firmly stated that there is no shortage of petrol and diesel in Odisha, dismissing recent media reports of temporary fuel unavailability at some retail outlets as unfounded.

The clarification comes after reports emerged of fuel stock shortages in certain areas, particularly in bordering districts of the state.

According to the OMCs, an unexpected spike in demand for petrol and diesel during the first week of May triggered the brief disruptions. Authorities moved quickly to address the situation through coordinated replenishment efforts. “Additional tank trucks have been deployed for faster transportation and replenishment of stocks at various supply locations and retail outlets,” the companies said in a statement.

It further stated that real-time monitoring of inventory levels is being conducted and supplies to outlets showing lower stocks to ensure seamless availability are being prioritised.

The OMCs emphasised that overall fuel supply across Odisha remains normal and stable, with adequate stocks of petrol and diesel available at all supply depots and retail outlets. All fuel stations are functioning without interruption, it stressed.

To prevent further pressure on retail outlets, the companies have urged industrial consumers to source their fuel requirements directly from the respective oil companies instead of retail fuel stations as these are not equipped or authorised for bulk sales of petroleum products.

Reassuring motorists and the public, the OMCs appealed to consumers to avoid panic buying. “There is no cause for concern,” they stated, while requesting citizens to rely only on official sources for updates on fuel availability.
