No Home Quarantine For Returnees In Puri; Know Why

Puri: The Puri administration on Tuesday said that all returnees to the district from other states will have to go for institutional quarantine.

The decision was taken after two persons tested positive for the deadly virus on Sunday (May 10). They had travel history to West Bengal.

Notably, the Odisha government had allowed home quarantine facility for returnees of urban areas.

Officials said that institutional isolation has been made mandatory keeping an eye on the annual Rath Yatra, slated to begin on June 23.

“The construction of chariots has already started and at this point in time, we don’t want to take any risk. Any further outbreak of the disease in the city can cast a cloud on the conduct of the annual festival,” an official said.

The Orissa High Court on Tuesday had directed the Odisha government to complete the chariot construction work by June 22.
