No More Barricades On Grand Road Leading To Puri Jagannath Temple

Puri: In further easing of restrictions for devotees visiting the Jagannath temple here, the district administration has decided to remove the barricades on Bada Danda (Grand Road) from Monday.

SP (Puri) Kanwar Vishal Singh informed this on Sunday.

The SP said the barricades from Jagannath Ballav Math to Marichikot Chhak will be removed following complaints by devotees that they had to walk for nearly 2 km to visit the shrine.

“We had received complaints from the devotees that it takes them a long time to reach the Jagannath temple as they have to move in a queue inside the barricades. We have decided to remove them so that the devotees can reach the temple much earlier. Besides, this will also allow more devotees to visit the temple,” Singh said.

The SP, however, added that the barricades from Marichikot Chhak to the temple will remain in place.

Earlier, the district administration had lifted the curb on devotees of showing a COVID-19 negative report for entering the temple. Following this, the number of devotees visiting the shrine for darshan has been swelling since Thursday.
