Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Majhi has taken a strict stance on government employees, who default on court-ordered maintenance and alimony payments to their wives and children, mandating that such amounts be directly deducted from their monthly salaries.

“During every complaint hearing conducted by the Chief Minister, an average of two to three such matters were reaching the complaint cell. Even after clear directions from various courts following legal proceedings, these employees have been ignoring their obligations. In response, the Chief Minister has ordered that the required amounts be deducted from the salaries of the concerned employees and provided to the rightful recipients. He stated that it is completely unacceptable for a state government employee to show contempt of court and to treat his wife and children with such injustice,” a CMO release said.

In accordance with the Chief Minister’s direction, a new circular for the maintenance of the affected women and children has been issued. Under this circular, once a court order for maintenance or alimony is received, the departmental Drawing and Disbursing Officer (DDO), while preparing the monthly salary bill of the government employee concerned , will deduct the amount fixed by the court and deposit it directly through electronic means into the bank account of the employee’s wife or child, it said.

To ensure long-term compliance and seamless execution, the Chief Minister has further directed that court-mandated maintenance processing be integrated into the state’s Human Resource Management System (HRMS). The automated digital workflow aims to eliminate delays, enforce strict adherence to judicial orders, and provide immediate financial relief to vulnerable women and children.
