No Need For COVID Test After Home Isolation: AIIMS Chief

New Delhi: There is no need to undergo COVID test for someone who has been in home isolation.

Explaining the logic, AIIMS director Dr Randeep Guleria said on Friday that in most of the mild and asymptomatic COVID-19 cases, the virus dies after the seventh or eighth day; at that time, it can’t be transmitted to another person.

But he added that the dead virus, or particles of dead virus, can be picked up by the RT-PCR test resulting in a positive report when actually a person is free from COVID.

“It is scientifically proved that the virus in mild cases dies after six or seven days,” Dr Guleria said.

The Union Ministry of Health & Family Welfare has stated in its new guidelines for coronavirus treatment under home isolation that patients must remain in isolation for 10 days.

Thereafter, isolation can be ended if there is no fever for three days.

The ministry emphasized that 85 per cent of people will recover at home, and there is no need to panic about Remdesivir or oxygen.
