No ‘Warning’ Posters To Be Pasted Outside Houses Of COVID-19 Patients!
New Delhi: The government here on Tuesday informed the Delhi High Court that it will issue a circular against pasting posters outside COVID-19 patients’ homes, and to remove the existing ones.
The court was hearing a plea that such posters violated the rights to privacy of a person.
A division bench of Justices Hima Kohli and Subramonium Prasad directed the AAP-led Delhi government to order authorities not to circulate the names of COVID-19 patients, especially with members of Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) or in other social media groups.
The petitioner had claimed that names of COVID-19 patients circulating freely on social media groups “is leading to stigmatisation and drawing of unnecessary attention” and also pointed out that posters have led to a dip in testing because of “public embarrassment and stigmatisation”.
Punjab has earlier stopped pasting such posters.
