Dhenkanal: A notorious criminal was injured in an encounter with police in Mangalpur forest area of Odisha’s Dhenkanal district on Thursday morning.
The injured criminal, identified as Debashish Behera alias Handa, is widely known as the ‘King of Forest’ in the area. He sustained bullet injury on his leg during the encounter with a team from Dhenkanal Sadar police on Thursday morning.
Sources said that a police team was tracking Handa following a specific intelligence information about his presence in the area. Finally, the police spotted and challenged him in Mangalpur forest, leading to the exchange of fire.
The criminal was first taken to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) in Dhenkanal for treatment and later referred to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack, for further treatment.
