Principal Secretary, Commence and Transport, Bishnupada Sethi said the portal, developed through technical expertise of NIC, is first of its kind in the country.

Stating that the government incentives like subsidy against purchase of electric vehicles would be directly disbursed to the vehicle owners through this portal, Transport Commissioner Arun Bothra said, “The vehicles purchased on or after September 1, 2021 would be eligible for the subsidy. As per the current policy, the provision of subsidy would continue for 4 years.”

The government would give a subsidy of 15% of the cost upto maximum Rs 5,000 for two-wheelers, 15% upto Rs 10,000 for three wheelers and upto Rs 50,000 for four-wheelers.

The buyers of the electric vehicle can avail the subsidy by logging to odishatransport.gov.in->online services->apply subsidy. The information about the vehicle would be automatically collected from Vahana Portal. The owner would be asked to give his bank details and the information regarding disbursement of subsidy to bank account would be intimated through SMS.

In addition to the subsidy, the owners of electric vehicles purchased in Odisha are now getting 100% exemption of motor vehicle (MV) tax and registration fees.

Deputy Director General, NIC, Kabita Roy; secretary, State Transport Authority, Brajabandhu Bhol; additional transport commissioner Srinivas Behera; additional secretary, Commerce and Transport Kishore Das; senior officers from Odisha State Transport Authority and NIC participated in the event.
