Bhubaneswar: A nurse was found hanging inside a rented house in Damana area of Bhubaneswar on Wednesday, prompting the police to launch a detailed investigation.
The deceased, identified as Sasmita from Balangir, was working as a nurse in Bhubaneswar. She was living in a rented house in Damana area under the jurisdiction of Chandrasekharpur Police Station with her live-in partner, Mahesh Nath.
Following the incident, police have detained her former boyfriend for questioning amid allegations of prolonged mental harassment and blackmail that may have driven her to die by suicide. Her live-in partner is also being questioned as part of the investigation.
Police recovered the body from the house and sent it for post-mortem examination.
Investigators reportedly found evidence pointing to the involvement of Sasmita’s former boyfriend, Paramananda, who is also from Balangir.
It was alleged that he had been blackmailing and mentally harassing Sasmita after learning that she was living with Mahesh in Bhubaneswar.
Sources said harassment was suspected to have intensified in the days leading up to her death. Police have seized Sasmita’s mobile phone and are examining call recordings, messages, and other digital evidence to establish the sequence of events.
