Mumbai: Virat Kohli has been named in the 15-man Indian squad for the ODI series in England, subject to him clearing a fitness test later this month.
The 37-year Kohli, who is nursing a hamstring injury sustained during the IPL final, missed the just-concluded three-match ODI series against Afghanistan, which India swept 3-0.
Kohli is learnt to be progressing well in his recovery and rehabilitation, and was assessed by the medical team of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in London. He has reportedly been asked to report to the Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru on June 22 for further evaluation, and possible clearance.
Shubman Gill will lead the squad, with Shreyas Iyer being his deputy.
Pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah and spinning allrounder Axar Patel are part of the squad, but the selectors couldn’t accommodate Yashasvi Jaiswal, who featured in the recent Afghanistan series due to Kohli’s absence.
A fit-again Harshit Rana is back in the squad, while Gurnoor Brar has kept his berth.
The first ODI between India and England will be played on July 14 at Edgbaston (Birmingham), followed by games in Sophia Gardens (Cardiff) on July 16 and at Lord’s (London) on July 19.
