Odia IRTS Officer Purnendu Mishra Appointed Member Traffic, Railway Board

New Delhi: Senior Indian Railway Traffic Service (IRTS) officer from Odisha Purnendu Mishra will be the new Member Traffic in Railway Board.

Mishra, who was serving as the General Manager of South Eastern Railway in Kolkata, has taken charge of his new assignment. He also briefly helmed the East Coast Railway as its General Manager.

Joint Secretary in the Railway Board S K Agarwal in an order said that the “President is pleased to approve the appointment of P S Mishra, IRTS, General Manager of South Eastern Railway as Member (Traffic( Railway Board and ex-officio secretary to the Government of India”.

Mishra, who is a resident of Bhubaneswar, joined the Railways as an IRTS officer 1982. During his long stint in the Railways, Mishra handled important portfolios such as Advisor/Safety & Executive Director (Corporate Communication), Railway Board and Divisional Railway Manager, Raipur in South East Central Railway. He also served as the Chief Operations Manager in Western Railway, besides holding crucial posts in East Coast Railway.

Mishra’s appointment as the Member Traffic, considered the second most prestigious post in Indian Railways after Chairman Railway Board, could prove a boon for Odisha and East Coast Railway in particular.

Sources in ECoR said his posting could give the much-needed push to various ongoing projects in Odisha. Besides, the State could also benefit from new services as he would overall be in command of passenger/freight movement in the country.
