Cuttack: Expressing displeasure over tardy investigation by Crime Branch into the death of Paralakhemundi ACF Soumya Ranjan Mohapatra, his father Abhiram moved the Orissa High Court on Monday seeking CBI or SIT probe without further delay.
Talking to mediapersons, Abhiram said in order to give protection to Paralakhemundi DFO Sangram Keshari Behera and Bidyabharati Panda (wife of Soumya Ranjan) police have destroyed all tangible evidence. Soumya Ranjan had sustained severe burn injuries at his official residence on July 12 night.
He further said the IIC of Paralakhemundi Police Station Bibekananda Swain and Sub-Inspector of Gurandi Police Station Mamatarani Panda had deliberately detained the ambulance van in which his son was taken to Cuttack for treatment.

Referring to the tardy probe by Crime Branch into the case, Mohapatra said the state investigating agency will not be able to arrest the DFO and Bidyabharati as it is being pressurised by the Forest and Environment minister.
“In the FIR, we had mentioned the name of the DFO, Bidyabharati and the cook Manmath Kumbha as the prime accused. Although the Crime Branch has interrogated them and lie detection test was conducted, it has not taken any further action due to obvious reasons,” he pointed out.

Maintaining that the Crime Branch is deliberately delaying the investigation, he said “As we are sure that we will never get justice under such circumstances, I have prayed the High Court to order either a CBI or a court-monitored SIT probe into the case.”
