New Delhi: With 46,506 beneficiaries vaccinated in Odisha so far, the state is among the top three in the country in the inoculation drive against coronavirus, according to data released by the Health and Family Welfare Ministry on Tuesday.
Odisha only lagged behind Karnataka (66,392) and Andhra Pradesh (46,680) in the number of inoculations carried out since the pan-India drive was launched on Saturday.
In fact, Odisha has surpassed bigger states like Uttar Pradesh (22,644) and Maharashtra (18,582) and even neighbouring West Bengal (29,866).
Daman & Diu (43), Dadra & Nagar Haveli (80) and Ladakh (119) are at the bottom of the list.
Meanwhile, India saw the lowest daily surge in COVID-19 cases in seven months with 10,064 fresh cases reported in the last 24 hours, the ministry said on Tuesday.
The daily case count was 10,956 on June 12, 2020.
The drop in daily cases comes as India enters the fourth day of the world’s largest vaccination drive, which was launched on Saturday. In fact, the total number of people vaccinated so far (4,54,049) is more than double the number of active cases (2,00,528) in the country as on Tuesday, the ministry informed.
In another positive development, the country also logged the lowest number of deaths linked to the virus in a single day since May 23. The country reported 137 deaths in the last 24 hours, taking the toll to 1,52,556.
