Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Cabinet on Wednesday approved a major infrastructure project to upgrade the Jaydev Vihar–Nandankanan road corridor in Bhubaneswar with an aim to ease traffic congestion and strengthen connectivity between capital city and Kataka.
The Cabinet approved the lowest turnkey bid of M/s Dineshchandra R Agrawal Infracon Pvt Ltd worth Rs 579 crore (excluding GST) for the improvement of the 9.5-km Jaydev Vihar–Nandankanan Road corridor from Kalinga Stadium Gate No. 4 to Raghunathpur Bridge.
The project, which has received administrative approval of Rs 949.35 crore from the Works Department, aims to transform the existing six-lane road into an eight-lane urban arterial corridor with grade-separated junctions to ease congestion and improve connectivity between Bhubaneswar and Cuttack.
The proposed corridor will feature flyovers at Jaydev Vihar (Cable Stay Bridge), Kalinga Hospital Square, Damana Square and KIIT Square, along with improvements at Kalarahanga Junction, service roads, slip roads, roundabouts, drainage systems, pedestrian subways, underground parking, commercial development at junctions, road safety infrastructure, lighting and landscaping.
The project is designed to decongest one of Bhubaneswar’s busiest traffic corridors, eliminate conflict points, improve pedestrian accessibility and facilitate seamless regional connectivity towards Baranga and Cuttack. The upgraded corridor is also expected to support the city’s long-term urban mobility and transit-oriented development plans, Chief Secretary Anu Garg told reporters after the Cabinet meeting.
The contract includes a 10-year defect liability and maintenance period, along with avenue plantation and its maintenance throughout the corridor for the same duration.
The project has been awarded on a turnkey basis and is scheduled to be completed within 24 months.
