Berhampur: Sand and miniature artist Satya Narayan Maharana has created two unique chariots of Lord Jagannath, Nandighosha, in honour of Rath Yatra in Puri.
Known for over 70 national and international records, Maharana has innovatively used cane and old newspapers for his latest creations.
For the first time, he crafted an 11-inch-high and 7.5-inch-wide cane chariot, a stunning masterpiece featuring 4 horses, 2 reversed parrots, 16 wheels, Dadhinauti, Patitapabana flag, Sarathi, and a Lord Jagannath idol—all made from cane. It took him three days to complete this installation.
His second creation, a 3-inch-high and 2-inch-wide chariot, made from layered newspapers and Fevicol, painted with watercolours, was completed in four hours, showcasing sustainable artistry.
At 41, Maharana, who has previously crafted 17 miniature chariots from materials like wood, chalk, and buttons, continues to blend devotion and innovation, creating enchanting tributes to Rath Yatra’s heritage.
