Berhampur: Around 1,500 Odia migrant workers were screened for coronavirus at Berhampur railway station on Monday. All of them are residents of Ganjam district and returned home from Maharashtra and Gujarat.
Ganjam Collector Vijay Amrut Kulange said the personal and travel details of the returnees were also noted down and they were advised self-quarantine.
According to the collector, the migrants had come back on board Konark Express, Puri-Ahmedabad Intercity Express and Garib Rath from the western states.
“Keeping in mind the rise of positive cases in Maharashtra, we are screening them at the station itself. As of now, they are not showing any signs, but we will be keeping track of them,” Kulange told the media.
He added that the migrants will be dropped off at their homes. “Lockdown in Ganjam district has almost reached a 100 per cent with plying of buses and trains being stopped. We have had full cooperation from all locals till now and if we can continue the same till March 29, then we can effectively control further contamination,” he added.
