Odisha BJP Requests Governor To Withdraw ‘False Case’ Against Its Deogarh MLA

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha unit of BJP on Tuesday appealed to Governor Prof Ganeshi Lal to intervene in withdrawing the ‘false case’ filed by police against its Deogarh MLA to ensure his release from jail.

A delegation of Odisha BJP led by party chief whip in Assembly Mohan Majhi met the Governor and submitted a memorandum in this regard on the day.

Speaking to media persons after meeting the Governor, Majhi said Deogarh MLA Subash Chandra Panigrahi was implicated in a false case by the police under pressure from the state government.

Though the MLA had filed a complaint with Deogarh police accusing Tileibani BDO Krushna Chandra Dalapati in the district of misbehaving with him, the police registered a case against Panigrahi on the basis of a complaint by Dalapati next day in connection with an ‘unfortunate incident’, Majhi said.

Accusing the government of hatching a conspiracy along with police to arrest the MLA, Majhi said it exposed the ruling BJD’s intention to suppress the opposition party with brutal force of law enforcing authorities. It is not first time that a BJP leader has been attacked in the state, he said the government has failed to take any steps against perpetrators of violent incidents.

Alleging that the BDO had violated the provisions of Block Circular 47 that deals with working relation between elected representatives and government servants, Majhi demanded arrest of the BDO.

The BJP delegation, in the memorandum, requested the Governor to instruct the government to ensure that public servants follow the Book Circular 47 in letter and spirit.

It may be noted that Panigrahi was arrested from his official quarters in Bhubaneswar on Sunday on the basis of the complaint filed by the BDO alleging that the former along with his associate had assaulted him.
