The tenure of Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court Ravi Ranjan ended on December 19, 2022. To ensure that the position does not remain vacant, the Supreme Court Collegium had recommended the elevation of Justice Mishra, the senior-most judge of the Uttarakhand High Court, to the post on December 13 last year.

A native of Odisha’s Balangir, Justice Mishra did his LLB from Law Faculty, Delhi University, in 1987. He secured the 1st position in the Recruitment Examination for District Judges from Bar and joined as Additional District & Sessions Judge, Jeypore, on February 2, 1999.  He also worked as District & Sessions Judge, Sundargarh, Dhenkanal, Special Judge (CBI), Bhubaneswar, and joined as Registrar General of Orissa High Court.

In 2009, Justice Mishra was elevated as a judge of the Orissa High Court, after which he was transferred to the Uttarakhand High Court. He has also served as the acting Chief Justice of the Uttarakhand High Court.
