Odisha Cabinet Nod For Regularisation Of Unauthorised Occupation Of Govt Land By Educational Institutions

Bhubaneswar: The state Cabinet on Tuesday approved the policy of regularisation of unauthorised occupation of government land worth around ₹4000 crore by educational institutions.

As per the Cabinet decision, all land under occupation of Government Degree Colleges and Government Higher Secondary Schools (erstwhile Plus II/Junior Colleges) will be recorded in the name of Higher Education Department and School & Mass Education Department respectively.

In case of composite colleges (where a Degree College coexists with a Higher  Secondary School), the land will be recorded separately in the name of Higher Education Department for the area under occupation of the Degree College and in the name of School & Mass Education Department for the area under occupation of the Higher Secondary School.

However, where such split of land is not possible, the entire land will be recorded in the name of Higher Education Department.

On settlement of the land, all previous encroachment cases booked by revenue authorities in respect of the land will be dropped and a token amount of Re 1 per acre per year towards assessment and penalty of Rs 10 per acre per year may be charged.

The cut-off date for consideration of occupation of government land by an institution is January 1, 2020.
