Odisha Cabinet Nod For Upgradation Of OSWAN With Budget Of Rs 332 Cr; Other Decisions Here

Bhubaneswar: In a major boost to the IT infrastructure, the state Cabinet on Saturday approved a proposal for upgradation of the Odisha State Wide Area Network (OSWAN) project.

Briefing the mediapersons after the virtual meeting of the Cabinet, presided by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, chief secretary Suresh Chandra Mohapatra said under the upgradation, reliable and robust IT infrastructure will be set up at the state headquarters, district headquarters and 314 block headquarters.

It will include use of Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) technology to secure connectivity. The upgradation of OSWAN with operation and maintenance will be taken up for five years with an estimated cost of Rs 332.09 crore.

The upgradation will facilitate the safe transfer of the inter and intra-departmental communication and data, videos and voice traffic.

Stating that the Cabinet approved 15 proposals including OSWAN, Mohapatra said it has been decided to transform CET, Bhubaneswar into non-affiliating Unitary University in the name and style of Odisha University of Technology & Research, Bhubaneswar.

Following are other major decisions taken by the Cabinet:

  • 2-laning of 23-km stretch of Duduka-Gopalpur-Toparia road with paved shoulder. The project worth ₹102.65 crore will serve as mining traffic bearing road connecting Basundhara coal mines.
  • Improvement of water supply to Joda and Champua in Keonjhar
  • Mega pipe water supply project for Bisra, Lathikata, Lahuniapada and Bonai blocks of Sundargarh
  • Waiver of royalty & other statutory payments for supply of Khondalite blocks from reserved mines for implementation of projects under ABADHA scheme in Puri & support sustainable development of heritage cities
  • Mega pipe water supply project for Lepripara, Tangarapali, Sundergarh, Bargaon, Subdega and Balisankara blocks in Sundergarh
  • Rules regarding Odisha civil services, Heads of Departments’ common cadre, jail pharmacist service and Odisha Panchayat executive officers service
