Bhubaneswar: In a significant move to further bolster the farm sector, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has approved the restructuring of the Odisha Fisheries Service and Odisha Horticulture Service cadres.

As per the decision, 217 new positions will be created in the Fisheries Service and 67 new posts in the Horticulture Service, thereby enhancing the state’s capacity to achieve its ambitious development goals, a statement from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) said on Monday.

The Fisheries Service cadre has been expanded from 618 to 835 posts, with the addition of 217 new positions, primarily at the field level. This restructuring is part of the state government’s vision to make Odisha self-reliant in fish production, targeting an annual output of 3.3 million tonnes by 2036.

The increased number of officers at the grassroots, district, and state levels is expected to strengthen fisheries development across the state, ensuring better implementation of policies and programs.

Similarly, the Horticulture Service cadre has grown from 403 to 470 posts with the addition of 67 new positions. This expansion is designed to promote comprehensive growth in the horticulture sector, which plays a crucial role in Odisha’s agricultural economy. The move is expected to enhance technical expertise and support for farmers, driving innovation and productivity in horticulture.

The restructuring aims at modernising and strengthening key agricultural sectors, ensuring sustainable growth and economic development for farmers and rural communities.
