Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Saturday congratulated the doctors of Institute of Medical Sciences and SUM Hospital here for successfully conducting the first-ever living donor liver transplantation in Odisha.
In a tweet, the CM said the major healthcare milestone offered a ray of hope for patients to access such critical treatments in Odisha.
A team of surgeons on Thursday conducted the complex nine hour twin surgery to save the life of Jayanta Biswal, a teacher, with his young son Soumya Ranjan donating a portion of his liver.
The surgical team comprised surgeons, nurses and paramedics from Yashoda Hospital at Hyderabad and SUM Hospital. SUM has signed a MoU with Yashoda Hospital for undertaking organ transplantation.
