Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi disbursed Rs 1,025 crore assistance to over 50.16 lakh farmers in the state under the CM-KISAN scheme on the occasion of Akshaya Tritiya.

The funds were directly credited to the bank accounts of the beneficiaries, reinforcing the state’s commitment to agricultural development and farmers’ welfare.

Officials said that for the first time, 25,000 farmers from urban areas have been included under the CM-KISAN scheme, marking a significant expansion in the government’s outreach to cultivators.
This move highlights the government’s effort to uplift all sections of the farming sector, ensuring better opportunities for growth and stability.

The scheme aims to provide timely financial assistance, helping farmers invest in essential resources for their crops. This initiative underscores Odisha’s dedication to strengthening rural economy while ensuring financial security for farmers.

Notably, the Chief Minister had on September 8, 2024, rolled out the CM-KISAN Yojana which will benefit around 46 lakh farmers of the state, including the landless.

The scheme will benefit farmers who had remained out of the ambit of PM-KISAN Yojana.

Under the scheme, the government provides Rs 4,000 annually to small and marginal farmers in two instalments, released on the occasions of Nuakhai and Akshaya Tritiya.

CM Majhi also participated in the traditional ‘Akhi Muthi Anukula’ ritual, a ceremonial act of sowing seeds and ploughing land to mark the beginning of the agricultural season, held at the Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT) farm in Bhubaneswar.

Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, who was present on the occasion, said he had earlier requested the Chief Minister to personally take part in the state-level Farmers’ Day programme.  He said the government is deeply committed to farmers’ welfare.
