Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi presented appointment letters to 964 newly recruited officials across five key government departments at a Nijukti Mela held in Bhubaneswar on Monday.
Speaking at the event organised at Krushi Sikhya Sadan of OUAT in the capital city, the CM emphasised that the energy and talent of Odisha’s youth will play a significant role in the state’s development.
Of the 964 posts filled, 563 are from Works Department, 62 in Water Resources Department, 117 in Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water Department, 204 in Housing and Urban Development Department, and 18 in Food Supply and Consumer Welfare Department. The positions include Junior Engineers, Tracers, Legal Metrology Inspectors, Junior Accountants, and Junior Implementation Officers.
Affirming the government’s commitment to filling 1.5 lakh vacancies across various departments within five years, the Chief Minister said around 65,000 appointments are planned to be made in the first two years. So far, 28,346 posts have been filled, and the aim is to exceed the target of 65,000 by June 2026, he said.
Majhi also highlighted employment in the private sector, stating that 45,000 youth secured jobs last year, bringing total job creation to 73,346.
The Chief Minister also underlined the role of industrial growth, citing the ‘Utkarsh Odisha 2025’ initiative, which has attracted Rs 17 lakh crore in investments and is expected to create 12.90 lakh jobs across 16 sectors.
Within five months, 56 industrial units have been inaugurated or had foundation stones laid, ensuring over 1.10 lakh employment opportunities, Majhi said.
The CM stressed that strict laws have been enacted to ensure a transparent, corruption-free recruitment process.
Describing government jobs as instruments of public service, he urged all new appointees to stay committed to the people and uphold integrity.
Food and Consumer Welfare Minister Krushna Chandra Patra said, “Young talents like you are vital to building a prosperous Odisha.” Housing and Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mahapatra hailed the appointments as a blessing to be used for public service.
Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water Minister Rabi Narayan Naik expressed confidence in the new recruits’ contributions,.
Works Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan said this is the beginning of a historic employment drive never before seen in post-independence Odisha.
